Cincinnati Staycation: Home as Vacation Destination

With summer travel plans on hold, many local residents are considering a Cincinnati staycation this year. If you design a custom home, you can make it feel like your favorite resort or travel destination.

Relax with Water

We can’t bring the beach to your Cincinnati staycation, but you can always add water to a custom home design. How about a backyard pool? With so many options in pools today, you can create one that fits your swimming and entertaining style perfectly. Set out your beach chair and soak up the soothing sparkle of sunlight on water.

For even more relaxation, many of our clients add a spa to their custom home outdoor living spaces. It can be incorporated into the pool area or set aside as a more private amenity with easy access from the master suite. Time spent unwinding in warm water will give you the vacation vibes you might be missing.

Landscaping is another place to add the sound and sight of water: A pond, fountain or waterfall can create a focal point in your yard, making it feel miles away from the everyday.

Get Sporty

golf simulator in Cincinnati custom home

Maybe you prefer more active vacations. A Cincinnati staycation can still get your heart rate up. Many of our custom home clients choose a golf simulator for their homes. With today’s innovative simulators, you can “travel” to dozens of famous courses and play a round or just practice your swing. Kids and families love the simulators, too, for their ability to multitask with video games and movie nights.

A sport court is a great addition to a custom home. These versatile courts can be used for basketball, tennis, pickleball, shuffleboard, volleyball and more. If you’d rather play indoors, add a home gym to the design of your custom home. Workouts are easy when you don’t have to commute to a gym. Add speakers and a TV to stay entertained and include the types of equipment and machines that you prefer. The best thing? You’ll have it all to yourself, so no waiting to use the treadmill.

No worries if working up a sweat is not your idea of a vacation or a Cincinnati staycation. If you’d rather curl up with a book, add a library to your home design or a dedicated spot to read, like a window seat or nook.

Spa Life for a Cincinnati Staycation

South Shore Cincinnati Custom Home by Hensley Custom Building Group

Missing your favorite resort with its lush spa this summer? Your Cincinnati staycation could include much-needed pampering if your custom home plan includes a spa-style bathroom.

Start with a beautiful, stand-alone tub. The popularity of these tubs means you’ll find them in a wide range of styles. Place yours near a window with a private view and you’ll have the chance to take a leisurely soak every day. Amp up the spa atmosphere by including speakers for a soothing soundtrack and a fireplace in your master bath. Pour yourself a glass of wine or cucumber water, grab a fluffy robe and you’ll feel transported.

Make space in your home design for a sauna, if that reminds you of your favorite resort. If you’d like to treat yourself to regular massages, include storage for a massage table, too.

The Great Outdoors

outdoor firepits

No need to get on a plane or drive for hours to enjoy summer. With a custom home, you can create restful (or social) outdoor spaces. Include an exterior fireplace or fire pit for gathering with close friends or family. A gazebo could become a sweet getaway all on its own. Fully outfit your outdoor kitchen or bar to keep the fun going. Installing string lights will bring the charm of a European cafe to your Cincinnati staycation. For the ultimate in relaxation, look for a swinging porch bed. You might never go back inside!
